An international photography project inspired by the 800th anniversary of Saint Francis of Assisi’s Canticle of the Creatures will be presented in Trieste on Thursday, October 23, at Museo LETS. The initiative, titled Il Cantico delle Creature, invites photographers from around the world to explore both the beauty of creation and the environmental challenges caused by human activity.

Organized by Trieste Photo Days in collaboration with the Municipality of Trieste, LETS–Letteratura Trieste, and La.Se. Società Cooperativa Sociale, the project centers on an open call that attracted thousands of submissions. Participants interpreted nine thematic elements from the Canticle, ranging from the light of Brother Sun to the mystery of Sister Moon and the Stars, the strength of Brother Wind, the humility of Water, the energy of Fire, the fertility of Sister Mother Earth, and reflections on bodily death.

Selected works will be featured in an exhibition and presented to the public, highlighting both aesthetic and contemplative dimensions. The project also includes contributions from photographer Dario De Dominicis, known for his documentary work, including a project on the world’s second-largest pilgrimage linked to Saint Francis.

Previously exhibited at Palazzo Monte Frumentario in Assisi from September 1 to 21, the project now arrives in Trieste as part of the Trieste Photo Days Festival.

Key events in Trieste include:

  • Thursday, October 23, 6:00 p.m., Museo LETS: Official presentation of the project and publication, featuring Professor Antonino Clemenza of the Pontifical Antonianum University, photographer Dario De Dominicis, and Italianist Riccardo Cepach, who will moderate.
  • October 24–November 23, Sala Selva, Palazzo Gopcevich: Photography exhibition.
  • Friday, October 24, 12:00 p.m.: Guided tour of the exhibition with De Dominicis and Clemenza.
