San Giusto Castle is hosting the second event in its 2026 Le Stagioni delle Armi (“The Seasons of Arms”) educational series today, offering visitors an opportunity to explore everyday life in 14th-century Trieste through historical reenactments and interactive exhibits.
Organized at the castle’s museum and fortress, the event features members of the Compagnia de Tergeste, a medieval reenactment group specializing in the 14th century. Dressed in historically accurate clothing and equipped with period reproductions, the participants present demonstrations based on public history methods, bringing the castle’s armory collections and surrounding spaces to life.
Alongside the series’ regular focus on medieval weapons and military equipment, today’s program centers on the theme “From Spices to Cuisine Along the Eastern Route.” Visitors are guided through the history of the medieval spice trade, learning how ingredients such as pepper, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and nutmeg reached Europe through eastern trade routes and became part of 14th-century cooking and medicine.
Educational stations are open throughout the castle’s regular opening hours. Guided tours in Italian depart at 10:30 a.m., 11:45 a.m., 3 p.m., 4:15 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., with each group limited to 25 participants. The tours are open to visitors of all ages.
Participation is included with admission to the castle, with tickets priced at €7 for adults and €5 for reduced admission.
Le Stagioni delle Armi is promoted by the Municipality of Trieste’s Department of Culture and Tourism and organized by the San Giusto Castle Museum in collaboration with Wavents, the European Historical Reenactment Consortium (C.E.R.S. Italia) and the Compagnia d’Arme Malleus.
