Visitors traveling to Udine for the inaugural Friuli Venezia Giulia Cup on Aug. 8 will have access to discounted cultural attractions and tourism offers as regional authorities seek to encourage fans to explore northeastern Italy beyond the stadium.
The tournament, hosted at Udine’s Bluenergy Stadium, will feature Italy’s Udinese, England’s Nottingham Forest and Spain’s FC Barcelona in a three-team competition beginning at 8 p.m.
To coincide with the event, the Friuli Venezia Giulia regional government and PromoTurismoFVG have introduced a series of benefits for match ticket holders. Fans, accompanied by one guest, will be entitled to a complimentary audio guide of Udine’s historic center and discounted admission to the city’s museums from Aug. 1 through Aug. 16. On the day of the tournament, Aug. 8, municipal museums will offer free admission to ticket holders.
Authorities have also launched a bilingual webpage providing practical information about the region and detailing the available offers for visitors attending the tournament.
In addition, PromoTurismoFVG announced a 20 percent discount on the FVGcard, the regional tourist pass, for purchases made at tourism information offices between Aug. 1 and Aug. 16. The pass provides access to museums, cultural sites and other attractions throughout Friuli Venezia Giulia.
The competition will consist of three 45-minute matches played in succession: Udinese vs. Nottingham Forest, Barcelona vs. Nottingham Forest, and Udinese vs. Barcelona. Teams will receive three points for a victory in regulation time. If a match ends in a draw, it will be decided by a penalty shootout, with the winning team awarded two points and the losing team one.
The tournament marks Barcelona’s return to Udine for the first time since its UEFA Champions League match against Udinese in December 2005. It will be Nottingham Forest’s first appearance in the city.
