More than 3,100 probationary officers of the Italian State Police took the oath of allegiance to the Republic on Tuesday during simultaneous ceremonies held at 13 State Police training schools across the country.
A total of 3,133 recruits from the 233rd training course participated in the ceremonies, which were attended by local authorities and family members at academies in Abbasanta, Alessandria, Campobasso, Caserta, Cesena, Pescara, Peschiera del Garda, Piacenza, Nettuno, Spoleto, Trieste and Vibo Valentia.
At the State Police Training School in Trieste, 415 probationary officers—144 women and 271 men—were sworn in. The ceremony was attended by Trieste Prefect Giuseppe Petronzi and Police Commissioner Lilia Fredella.
The national ceremony was held in Campobasso, where Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi and the Chief of Police and Director General of Public Security, Vittorio Pisani, reviewed an honor formation that included the State Police Band, the Police Flag and a contingent of 196 probationary officers. The proceedings were streamed live to audiences gathered at the other training schools.
As part of the Campobasso ceremony, organizers displayed the remains of the Quarto Savona Quindici, the escort vehicle carrying police officers Antonio Montinaro, Vito Schifani and Rocco Dicillo during the 1992 Capaci bombing that killed anti-mafia judge Giovanni Falcone. The exhibit served as a tribute to officers who lost their lives in the defense of the rule of law and democratic institutions.
The highest-ranked graduates from each training school received awards during the closing portion of the ceremony. In Campobasso, the recognitions were presented by the interior minister, the chief of police and the local prefect.
Following the oath, the newly sworn officers will begin an applied training period at police units across Italy, where they will complete the final stage of their preparation before entering active service.
