The Residenza Campanelle, a residential facility for people with severe disabilities, celebrated the completion of major heating and cooling system renovations on Tuesday with an official reopening and the unveiling of a new mural titled “The Tree of Life.”

The event, held at the facility on Via Modiano, included a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Massimo Tognolli, Trieste’s Social Policies Assessor, Stefano Chicco, director of the city’s Social Services Department, and representatives from the local health authority and the La Quercia social cooperative.

The mural, created with the participation of the residents, features the slogan “Together… we leave our mark,” and was inaugurated by Tognolli, who placed one of the small wooden hearts provided for attendees to leave messages on the walls of the facility.

“This day is about leaving a mark of this journey on the walls, so everyone can share what they have experienced,” Tognolli said, adding that the ceremony also included a small musical reception for the residents.

Renovation work, which began in July 2024, involved the replacement of aging heating and cooling systems. City officials emphasized that the project required careful planning to minimize disruption for residents, including temporary relocations within the facility and to nearby day centers.

Chicco noted that the improvements aimed to provide residents with greater comfort and accessibility. “Social services are about caring for people and supporting their daily lives,” he said. “Updating the facility’s infrastructure ensures residents can enjoy all possible comforts.”

The project was a collaborative effort involving municipal offices, contractors, and facility staff, who coordinated to complete the renovations floor by floor. Special attention was paid to maintaining the familiar environment for residents, with staff adapting spaces and activities to ensure continuity of care and daily routines.

Tognolli praised the cooperation among all parties involved, from municipal officials to service staff, contractors, and kitchen and cleaning personnel, noting the project demonstrated a method of teamwork focused on residents’ needs.

“The process was not always easy,” Tognolli said. “It required flexibility, creativity, and patience from everyone, but it also showed how effective collaboration can create positive results for our community.”

The facility now reopens with upgraded systems and a renewed emphasis on comfort and accessibility, providing a safer and more welcoming environment for residents and staff alike.
