Folkest will continue its regional program on July 19 with an outdoor performance in the Resia Valley that blends music, environmental research and the natural landscape of Friuli Venezia Giulia.
The free event, Sonification of the Via della Musica in Val Resia, will begin at 10 a.m. in Bosco Stolvizza Facile and is part of the festival’s Odmevi/Echi project, organized with the Sergio Gaggia Association and in collaboration with Carniarmonie.
The performance will feature electronic musician Andrea Dalla Costa and pianist Alessandro Montello, with a guest appearance by pianist Andrea Rucli, who will perform Puusarja (“The Trees”) by Finnish composer Jean Sibelius.
At the center of the program is Val Resia, a multidisciplinary project that combines artistic research with scientific data. Dalla Costa recorded natural sounds from the forests along the area’s Via della Musica, including wind, flowing water and ambient woodland sounds. The project also translates the genetic sequences of local tree species into musical patterns, creating original piano compositions performed by Montello.
The compositions incorporate biological data collected from living trees through sensors attached to the xylem, the tissue that carries water and nutrients from roots to leaves. Organizers say the result is an immersive listening experience designed to highlight the relationship between music, ecology and scientific research.
The event reflects Folkest’s broader mission of promoting Friuli Venezia Giulia’s landscapes through cultural initiatives that connect artistic expression, local communities and the environment.
Admission is free. Visitors are encouraged to bring a blanket or folding chair, although limited seating will be available on site. The performance will be postponed in the event of bad weather.
