Global conflicts and long-awaited infrastructure investments were at the heart of a logistics conference held in Trieste on May 26.
Speaking at the event, Alessia Melcangi warned that instability in Western Asia and uncertainty around the Strait of Hormuz could continue to disrupt energy supplies, trade routes, and global supply chains for months to come.
Closer to home, Marco Consalvo announced a major breakthrough for the Port of Trieste: funding for the new Servola railway station and motorway interchange has finally been unlocked. The project is expected to pave the way for further investments, including the development of Molo VIII and future high-speed rail connections.
According to trade data presented during the conference, Italy’s import-export volume surpassed €1.2 trillion in 2025, while traffic through the Suez Canal remained nearly 50 percent below 2020 levels.
Opening the event, Antonio Paoletti highlighted the importance of strengthening logistics networks as geopolitical tensions continue to reshape global trade. The publication of the ministerial decree authorizing the Servola tender is expected to be the next key step for the project.
