Mayor Paolo Polidori, accompanied by councilor Gianna Birnberg, presented the traditional plaque recognizing the first newborn of the year in Muggia. The award, initiated by Polidori at the start of his term, is intended to celebrate each year’s first child registered in the town’s civil records.

This year, three infants received the honor, all born on January 4 within hours of each other: Benedetta, Edoardo, and Bryan. The one-month-old babies were welcomed into the Council Chamber at the municipal building for the presentation.

While birth rates have generally been declining across Italy, Muggia recorded a slight increase last year. In 2025, 52 children were registered in the town — 30 boys and 22 girls — compared with 50 births in 2024, which included 27 boys and 23 girls.
