While temperatures in Friuli Venezia Giulia’s main cities, Trieste and Udine, climbed toward 37°C on Thursday, 6 August, many residents sought relief in the region’s mountains, where cooler air offered a welcome escape from the ongoing heatwave.
Mountain huts across the region welcomed locals and visitors, serving traditional meals to hikers taking advantage of the milder conditions. In Sella Nevea, temperatures remained below 25°C, drawing families and outdoor enthusiasts eager to spend the day in the fresh alpine air rather than the sweltering cities.
The contrast between the scorching plains and the cool mountain landscapes highlighted the region’s varied geography, with high-altitude destinations providing a natural refuge during one of the hottest weekends of the summer.
