Terrazza a Mare, one of Lignano Sabbiadoro’s most recognizable waterfront landmarks, is expected to reopen by the end of the year, ahead of its original construction schedule, regional and local officials said following an inspection of the site on Monday.
The visit brought together regional tourism councillor Sergio Emidio Bini, Mayor Laura Giorgi, representatives of Lisagest, the company managing the facility, officials from the construction firm Setten Genesio Spa and project managers overseeing the redevelopment.
According to officials, the project has entered its final phase and is on track to be completed before the 882-day timetable established when construction began in April 2024.
The redevelopment of the building, originally designed by architect Aldo Bernardis and inaugurated in 1972, represents an investment of more than €18 million. The project includes extensive structural reinforcement, with the strengthening of the building’s existing 54 support columns and the installation of 120 new columns to support the expanded sections of the complex. Additional foundation piles were added to support a new staircase connecting the building to the beach.
The renovation also introduces significant energy-efficiency upgrades. The building has been converted to operate entirely on electricity, eliminating the use of fossil fuels. Thermal-insulated windows and a rooftop photovoltaic system using flexible, low-visibility solar panels are intended to reduce energy consumption while preserving the structure’s architectural appearance.
Among the new features are a beach club, an infinity pool extending toward the end of the pier and redesigned public spaces that restore uninterrupted views of the Adriatic Sea by removing a former connecting roof between the building’s two shell-shaped structures.
Officials also toured the building’s interior spaces, which will include a conference and event hall accommodating about 200 people, a wellness center and bar on the ground floor, and a restaurant on the upper level with two dining rooms seating approximately 50 guests each.
Regional and municipal representatives said they intend to continue working together on the future management and promotion of the landmark, describing the renewed Terrazza a Mare as a key addition to Lignano Sabbiadoro’s tourism infrastructure.
