In a concerted effort to combat the misuse of alcohol and narcotics, the State Police in Trieste have undertaken an extraordinary initiative. Under the directive of the Trieste Questore, a sophisticated network of surveillance was put into effect from Friday evening well into the dawn hours of Saturday, March 23. This operation, which witnessed the collaboration of Highway Patrol Agents, Trieste Local Police, and State Police medical personnel, aimed at identifying drivers under the influence of psychoactive substances.

Spanning the thoroughfares from the heart of Trieste to the interstate network, a total of four Highway Patrol patrols, three Local Police patrols, one Questura patrol, along with the State Police Medical Officer and his team, conducted stringent alcohol screenings on 316 motorists. The outcome revealed a disconcerting array of violations:

Two individuals were found in breach of article 186 bis of the Highway Code, with alcohol levels in their bloodstream reaching up to 0.5 g/liter – notably, a taxi driver and a newly licensed driver, both mandated to adhere to a zero-tolerance policy for alcohol consumption.

Further scrutiny unearthed seven instances of breaches under article 186, letter a), for alcohol concentrations ranging from 0.51 to 0.8 g/liter, involving six men and one woman.

Additionally, eight violations under article 186, letter b), were identified for alcohol concentrations spanning from 0.81 to 1.5 g/liter, involving six men and two women.

Furthermore, three drivers tested positive for psychoactive substances through saliva screening, administered by State Police medical personnel. Among them, one woman tested positive for THC, Cocaine, and Amphetamines, while two men tested positive for THC.

Consequently, 15 driving licenses were revoked, with a deduction of 160 points per license.

The initiative underscores the State Police’s unwavering commitment to road safety and public welfare. It serves as a stark reminder of the grave repercussions of reckless driving behavior and aims to instill heightened vigilance among citizens against perilous conduct behind the wheel.

The perils of driving under the influence are indisputable, unleashing a cascade of impairments that jeopardize not only the driver’s safety but also that of fellow road users. As the State Police continues its tireless efforts to enforce road safety measures, the message reverberates loud and clear: When it comes to driving, there is no room for compromise – safety must always take precedence.
