Four hospitals in Friuli Venezia Giulia have been included in Newsweek’s World’s Best Specialized Hospitals 2027 ranking, highlighting the region’s reputation for excellence in pediatric, cardiovascular, neurological and cancer care.
The annual ranking, published by the American news magazine in partnership with research firm Statista, evaluates hospitals across 35 countries using physician surveys, hospital quality indicators and patient-reported outcomes.
Among the regional institutions recognized are IRCCS Burlo Garofolo in Trieste for pediatrics, Cattinara Hospital for cardiology and cardiac surgery, Santa Maria della Misericordia in Udine for neurology, gastroenterology and urology, and CRO Aviano for oncology.
The Friuli Venezia Giulia hospitals appear alongside some of Italy’s most prestigious medical centers, including Rome’s Bambino Gesù Children’s Hospital and Policlinico Gemelli, as part of a list featuring 42 Italian hospitals across 13 specialties.
Yet when InTrieste asked residents in Trieste which hospital they associate most with medical excellence, one answer emerged repeatedly: Burlo Garofolo, the city’s renowned children’s and maternal health institute, widely regarded by locals as one of the region’s greatest healthcare assets.
