A construction company in Trieste has launched a new workplace health and safety program that includes the installation of six automated external defibrillators (AEDs) across its construction sites and facilities, alongside first-aid training for employees.
The initiative, called Health&Care, was presented Tuesday by Edil Group at its headquarters in Trieste. Company executives were joined by regional officials and representatives of the local emergency medical service, reflecting what organizers described as a partnership between business, public health and local institutions.
The first phase of the program involves placing six AEDs at worksites operated by Edilimpianti, a benefit corporation within the group. The devices will also be registered with Trieste’s emergency response network, allowing the local 118 ambulance service to identify their locations during cardiac emergencies, including incidents involving members of the public nearby.
“Our responsibility extends beyond construction sites and economic results,” Vincenzo Settimo, president of Edil Group, said during the presentation. He said the company viewed safety and health as part of its broader commitment to employees and the communities where it operates.
Company officials said the project is designed to go beyond legal safety requirements by emphasizing prevention and preparedness. In addition to installing the devices, employees will receive certified training in recognizing medical emergencies, activating emergency services and using defibrillators.
“A defibrillator alone is just a tool,” said Orian Frasheri, the group’s human resources manager. “A trained person can recognize an emergency, call for help and use the device correctly.”
The initiative was developed with support from Walter Rojc, who oversees the project, and Dr. Alberto Peratoner, director of Trieste’s 118 emergency medical service, who highlighted the importance of rapid intervention in cases of cardiac arrest.
Regional Councillor Alessia Rosolen, whose portfolio includes labor, education and research, said the project illustrated the value of collaboration between employers, healthcare providers and public institutions in promoting safer workplaces.
Edil Group said Health&Care is intended as a multi-year program built around six areas of action, combining health prevention, safety, training and corporate responsibility. The company said additional initiatives will be introduced as the program expands.
