The third stage of the 2026 Giro d’Italia Women concluded Sunday in Buja, in Italy’s northeastern Friuli Venezia Giulia region, bringing the international cycling event through a series of towns and landmarks that local officials say help showcase the area’s cultural and natural heritage.

The stage began in Bibione and passed through Latisana, Rivignano Teor, Codroipo — where an intermediate sprint was held near Villa Manin — as well as Basiliano, Fagagna, Moruzzo, Tarcento, Montenars and Gemona del Friuli before finishing in the hillside town of Buja.

Speaking at the finish area, Mario Anzil, vice governor of Friuli Venezia Giulia and the region’s sports delegate, said the race’s presence in the region also carries symbolic significance as local communities continue commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 1976 earthquake.

Anzil noted that hosting major sporting events contributes to the region’s visibility, highlighting its landscapes, historical sites, cultural attractions and culinary traditions.

The vice governor also praised women’s sport during the podium ceremony, describing the Giro d’Italia Women as an opportunity to recognize the achievements of Italian and local athletes while engaging cycling fans across the country.

The race continues Monday with an individual time trial from Belluno to Nevegal and is scheduled to conclude on June 7 in Saluzzo.
