On April 28, recognized by the International Labor Organization as World Day for Safety and Health at Work, the University of Trieste joined universities across Italy in a coordinated emergency preparedness initiative aimed at promoting a stronger culture of prevention.

The exercise, part of the project “Universities United for Shared Safety,” involved students, faculty, and administrative staff in a simulated emergency followed by an evacuation drill held simultaneously across participating campuses.

At Trieste, alarms were activated and normal teaching, research, and administrative activities were briefly suspended as participants followed emergency procedures and moved to designated assembly points under the guidance of trained staff.

The initiative was designed to test the effectiveness of emergency plans, communication systems, and coordination among university departments, while also encouraging greater awareness of personal responsibility during critical situations.

Supported by the Conference of Italian University Rectors and the national network of university prevention and protection services, the project aims to make safety not only a regulatory requirement but a shared value across academic communities.

Rector Donata Vianelli said the university supports the effort because increasing awareness around health and safety is an essential step toward building a stronger culture of prevention in workplaces and places of study.
