At the LETS – Literature Trieste Museum in Trieste, applications are open until April 30 for a four-day masterclass in urban photojournalism led by internationally acclaimed photographer and reporter Monika Bulaj.
Titled Uncanny Triest: La grazia scontrosa di Trieste (“The Uncanny Trieste: The Austere Grace of Trieste”), the course will take place on May 15, 16, 22 and 23, 2026, in the museum’s Forum Space. Designed as an intensive workshop in visual storytelling, the program will focus on the city of Trieste as both subject and setting, exploring photography as a practice rooted in observation, encounter and listening.
Open to both professional photographers and enthusiasts of all ages and backgrounds, the masterclass is limited to 10 participants. Applicants must submit their interest by email by April 30 to eventi.biblioteche@comune.trieste.it. Those who apply will receive a form authorizing the transfer of personal data to the instructor, along with technical guidelines for submitting a portfolio.
Final selection will be made by Ms. Bulaj based on the portfolios received, with the 10 chosen participants to be notified by email by May 9.
The course will combine fieldwork with group analysis and discussion, addressing key themes in contemporary photographic language, including the representation of reality, the subjectivity of perspective, the ethics of reportage and the narrative construction of images. Particular emphasis will be placed on editing and the development of long-term visual projects.
The schedule includes afternoon sessions on Friday, May 15 and Friday, May 22, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., and morning sessions on Saturday, May 16 and Saturday, May 23, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
