Fincantieri held its Safety Day at the Monfalcone shipyard on the International Day for Safety and Health at Work this Tuesday, 28 April, bringing together company leaders, local officials, and regional representatives.
The event opened with a moment of silence led by Fincantieri President Biagio Mazzotta for Tommaso, a worker who died at the site two months ago. Mazzotta called Safety Day an important milestone and announced it would become an annual event, with its principles applied every day.
CEO and General Manager Pierroberto Folgiero said the company has achieved a 50 percent improvement in safety indicators across all shipyards over the past three years. He stressed that safety requires a cultural shift, not just compliance after accidents. “Talking about safety only after a fatality is a legal exercise, not a real commitment,” he said.
Folgiero also announced a new campaign focused on reporting near misses and unsafe behaviours to strengthen prevention efforts.
Monfalcone Mayor Luca Fasan said Folgiero’s invitation reflected a spirit of collaboration. He also highlighted Fincantieri’s recently secured orders through 2039, underlining the company’s economic importance for the city.
Governor Massimiliano Fedriga described Folgiero as a national asset and recalled the President of the Republic’s goal of zero workplace deaths. He confirmed the Region is supporting dialogue between Fincantieri and the Municipality of Monfalcone, calling Safety Day part of a broader effort to strengthen ties with the local community.
