The regional government of Friuli Venezia Giulia has approved a €5 million relief package for residents and businesses affected by the November 17 floods, announcing a set of immediate-support measures intended to bridge the gap while authorities complete a full assessment of the damage.

Beginning December 1, 24 municipalities—among them Cormons, Romans d’Isonzo, and Dolegna del Collio—will start collecting reports from citizens and companies to initiate the request process. The funding includes monthly housing support for displaced families, grants for home repairs, and assistance for replacing vehicles damaged in the disaster.

Regional Civil Protection Councillor Riccardo Riccardi presented the measures in Palmanova during a meeting with the mayors of Cormons and Romans d’Isonzo. He emphasized the need for rapid intervention following severe weather events of this scale. “Experience teaches us that, after events of this magnitude, ensuring timeliness and concreteness is essential,” Riccardi said. He noted that emergency response efforts had involved more than 1,100 Civil Protection volunteers and over 400 vehicles in Versa, along with 303 volunteers and 130 vehicles in the Cormons area.

Housing Support for Displaced Families

The first of the relief measures targets residents whose homes were destroyed or declared uninhabitable. Monthly contributions will be provided to support independent temporary accommodation. The amount varies based on family size: €400 for individuals, €500 for couples, €700 for families of three, €800 for four, and €900 for households of five or more. An additional €200 per month is available for each resident over the age of 65 or with a disability of at least 67 percent, with no overall cap.

Support may be provided for up to six months, unless the municipality offers free alternative housing. In Cormons, officials are working to secure accommodations for about ten residents evacuated from the designated red zone, which may remain off-limits for as long as three years due to a landslide from the San Giorgio hillside.

Grants for Home Repairs

A second measure focuses on restoring damaged homes. Owners, holders of real property usage rights, and condominium administrators in the affected municipalities—including Aiello, Bagnaria Arsa, Cervignano, Chiopris-Viscone, Cormons, Corno di Rosazzo, Dolegna del Collio, Drenchia, Gonars, Manzano, Medea, Palmanova, Porpetto, Prepotto, Rivignano Teor, Romans d’Isonzo, San Giorgio di Nogaro, San Giovanni al Natisone, San Leonardo, San Vito al Torre, Santa Maria la Longa, Torviscosa, Trivignano Udinese, and Visco—will be eligible for grants ranging from €5,000 to €15,000, depending on the extent of the damage.

A third measure, not yet detailed publicly, will provide up to €10,000 for replacing vehicles rendered unusable by floodwaters.

Regional officials describe the package as an advance designed to address urgent needs, with more comprehensive interventions to follow once the full scale of the losses is established.
