Regional authorities in Friuli Venezia Giulia said on Monday that weather conditions were expected to improve after a night of heavy rain, even as they urged continued caution in the areas hardest hit by flooding.
The regional councillor for civil protection, Riccardo Riccardi, announced that the orange-level alert — the second-highest warning — would remain in effect until noon for the Isontino, Middle and Lower Friuli areas. A yellow alert was issued for Upper Friuli. Officials said that while scattered showers and thunderstorms were forecast throughout the day, they were not expected to match the intensity of the previous night’s downpours. Rain is projected to end by Tuesday.
“The expected decrease in rainfall will help rescue and restoration operations, even though today remains a delicate situation,” Mr. Riccardi said.
He added that teams from the regional Civil Protection service were working “minute by minute” alongside firefighters, municipal authorities, law enforcement and volunteer groups. Their priority, he said, was to assist residents in the most affected zones, particularly Brazzano di Cormons and Versa, two communities that experienced significant flooding and disruption.
Emergency crews continued pumping water, clearing debris and monitoring river levels on Monday, as officials warned that saturated soil and swollen waterways could still pose risks despite improving weather conditions.
