A yellow weather alert remains in place across most of Friuli Venezia Giulia on Monday morning as heavy rain and shifting winds continue to affect the region. The alert, issued by the regional Civil Protection agency, began at midnight and is set to remain active until noon.
Intense rainfall that moved in overnight has been particularly strong across the Giulian Prealps, where forecasters had warned of “very intense” precipitation. Coastal areas have been experiencing moderate to strong southwesterly winds, known locally as the Libeccio, contributing to episodes of high water and minor storm surges earlier in the morning.
Meteorologists expect winds to gradually turn from the north later in the day, ushering in cooler air and lowering snow levels. Snowfall, which had remained above 2,000 meters overnight, is forecast to drop to around 1,000 meters in the Alps and between 1,300 and 1,500 meters in the Prealps.
Authorities are advising residents to exercise caution, particularly in areas susceptible to flooding and along the coast, as unsettled weather continues across the region.
