The Regional Environmental Protection Agency of Friuli Venezia Giulia (Arpa FVG) has launched a new online tool that allows users to download spatially detailed air quality data, expanding public access to environmental information across the region.
The feature was unveiled Tuesday in Trieste by regional officials, including Fabio Scoccimarro, the regional councillor for environment, energy, and sustainable development; Anna Lutman, director general of Arpa FVG; and Fulvio Stel, the agency’s technical-scientific director.
The update combines real-time measurements from monitoring stations with advanced photochemical simulations that model atmospheric chemical reactions. This integration allows for high-resolution mapping of air quality, even in areas without monitoring stations, providing data at a 2-kilometer scale.
The system is designed to give a comprehensive view of pollutant concentrations throughout Friuli Venezia Giulia, complementing existing data services on the agency’s website. Users can access information from 2015 to the present on key air-quality indicators, including:
- Nitrogen dioxide (NO₂): daily maximum concentration
- Ozone (O₃): daily maximum of the 8-hour average
- Particulate matter (PM₁₀ and PM₂.₅): daily mean concentration
- Sulfur dioxide (SO₂): daily maximum and daily mean concentration
Arpa FVG said the tool is intended to support citizens, researchers, businesses, and public administrations, particularly for environmental-impact studies and strategic environmental assessments.
The agency described the update as part of its ongoing effort to promote transparency and public awareness of environmental conditions in the region, providing easy access to up-to-date air quality information.
