Jonathan Milan has reclaimed the green jersey at the Tour de France, awarded to the leader of the points classification, after a strong performance in Tuesday’s stage.
The 23-year-old sprinter from Buja, Friuli Venezia Giulia, collected 20 points by crossing first at the intermediate sprint in Villers-Bocage, located 20 kilometers into the stage. According to official Tour de France data, Milan hit a top sprinting speed of 63.5 kilometers per hour.
Following the sprint, a breakaway group gained momentum, while Milan, having secured his points, settled into a more relaxed rhythm in the main peloton of sprinters.
Meanwhile, Dutch rider Mathieu van der Poel gained enough time on the stage to narrowly take the yellow jersey — awarded to the overall race leader — from Tadej Pogačar by just one second. Van der Poel ultimately finished eighth at the stage’s conclusion in Vire Normandie, a result that was not sufficient to claim the green jersey as well.
Milan now leads the points classification with 112 points, followed closely by Van der Poel with 108, and Eritrean rider Biniam Girmay with 106.
Wednesday’s stage will present new challenges, with a hilly 197-kilometer route finishing atop the Mur de Bretagne. The terrain is expected to favor breakaways, and an intermediate sprint will again offer critical points for the green jersey contenders.
