As the month of July draws to a close, the city of Trieste offers a wide array of cultural events through its Trieste Estatesummer program, designed to bring archaeology, music, and performance into the open air. From Tuesday, July 29 to Thursday, July 31, residents and visitors alike are invited to engage with history, art, and music across various venues in the city.

On Tuesday evening, the spotlight falls on archaeology with a public talk titled “Small Stories of Daily Life from the Past” at the garden of the J. J. Winckelmann Museum of Antiquities. Starting at 8:30 p.m., archaeologists Paola Maggi, Renata Merlatti, and Gabriella Petrucci will guide the audience through the lesser-known facets of Trieste’s past. Drawing on their book SottoTrieste. Visitare la città, ripercorrere la storia (Luglio Editore, 2025 reprint), the speakers will use artifacts unearthed during local excavations—many of them exhibited in the city’s museums—to share everyday stories of people from antiquity. The event is free and open to the public.

The evening will continue with a concert by the instrumental ensemble Lumen Harmonicum, joined by tenor Paolo Venier. Their performance will blend early music and vocal artistry in the evocative setting of the museum’s garden.

This blend of scholarship and performance reflects the broader mission of Trieste Estate: to make culture accessible, engaging, and relevant to contemporary audiences. The festival, which spans the summer months, is a fixture of the city’s cultural calendar and continues to draw audiences with its diverse programming.

Further events are scheduled through the end of the week, including theatrical performances, musical acts, and open-air screenings—each one offering a unique way to experience Trieste’s rich heritage and vibrant creative scene.
