Visitors to Miramare Castle Museum will have the opportunity to explore the everyday life of ancient Egypt through a new series of hands-on workshops presented alongside the exhibition A Sphinx Beckons: Maximilian of Habsburg and the Egyptian Collections Between Trieste and Vienna.
Held on the fourth Sunday of each month from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the workshops are led by Egyptologist Susanna Moser and are designed for small groups, offering participants an immersive experience centered on the museum’s Egyptian collections.
The educational program forms part of Miramare’s broader effort to highlight its historical and cultural heritage through activities aimed at families, children, and adult visitors.
Music in Ancient Egypt
The next workshop, scheduled for August 30, is titled “Egyptian Music: Songs and Sounds in Ancient Egypt.” Participants will discover how music and dance played a central role in Egyptian society, drawing on surviving texts, artworks, and original musical instruments that have helped scholars reconstruct the sounds of the ancient civilization.
The session concludes with a practical activity in which attendees build a sistrum, the iconic rattle-like instrument widely used in religious ceremonies and celebrations throughout the ancient world.
The workshop is suitable for all audiences.

Tickets and reservations
Workshops are open to adults and families with children aged 10 and older. Participation is free with the purchase of the exhibition’s reduced admission ticket (€10) or the combined Castle and Exhibition ticket, subject to applicable discounts.
Places are limited, and advance reservation is required by email at eventi.miramare@cultura.gov.it. Reservations are confirmed only after receiving a confirmation from the museum.
