The University of Trieste has moved up its admissions calendar, opening enrollment for the 2026–27 academic year on April 20—weeks earlier than its traditional June start—in a bid to meet growing demand from prospective students eager to secure a place before completing their final high school exams.
“We responded to students who want certainty earlier,” said Rector Donata Vianelli, noting a rise not only in undergraduate interest but also in applications for graduate programs. Increasingly, she added, students from other universities are choosing Trieste to continue their studies.
Among the most notable changes this year is the removal of enrollment caps for several degree programs. Admissions to Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology, and Earth Sciences for Sustainable Development will now be open to all qualified applicants, with initial assessments used to gauge preparedness rather than restrict access.
The move reflects a broader effort to make the university more accessible while maintaining academic standards. It also aligns with a strategy to expand its international reach. The university offers a growing number of programs taught entirely in English, alongside double-degree partnerships with institutions across Europe, including universities in France, Germany, Belgium, Spain, and Slovenia.
With 36 undergraduate programs, seven single-cycle master’s degrees, and 35 postgraduate degrees, the University of Trieste continues to position itself at the intersection of scientific innovation, life and health sciences, and the humanities and social sciences. Its offerings, university officials say, are designed to reflect the evolving needs of the job market.
That ambition was recently underscored by a top-tier accreditation from Italy’s National Agency for the Evaluation of Universities and Research Institutes (ANVUR), which placed Trieste among a small group of institutions recognized for excellence.
