A charity golf tournament supporting cancer care at Trieste’s hospital will return on Sunday, Sept. 13, following a successful inaugural edition that raised €20,000 for the city’s oncology and hematology departments.

The event, Uno Swing per le Cure (“A Swing for Care”), will once again be held at the Golf Club Trieste, combining competitive golf with activities open to the wider public in an effort to raise funds for patient care.

Proceeds from last year’s tournament financed the renovation of the Oncology Department’s waiting room and helped support a new professional role within the Hematology Department. Organizers say the 2026 edition aims to build on that momentum with broader institutional support and a larger network of sponsors.

This year’s event is held under the patronage of ASUGI, Trieste’s local health authority, and the Italian League Against Cancer (LILT Trieste). It has also received recognition from the Regional Olympic Committee of Friuli Venezia Giulia (CONI FVG) and the Italian Golf Federation (FIG).

A day of golf and community participation

The program includes an 18-hole Stableford tournament for golfers, alongside an Open Day designed for beginners, featuring instruction from former professional golfer Giulia Sergas. Visitors will also be able to participate in putting competitions, regardless of experience, and test new equipment during a demonstration organized by Approach Golf.

The afternoon will conclude with an awards ceremony, a charity raffle and a celebratory toast.

Organizers say the goal is to make the event accessible beyond the golfing community, encouraging families, friends and local residents to take part in a day centered on solidarity.

Growing support from local businesses

More than a dozen companies and organizations have joined the 2026 edition as sponsors, contributing prizes and gifts for participants. Among them are MIB Trieste School of Management, De’Longhi, Samsonite, Lacoste, Gherardini, Pelletteria Cattaruzza, Vini Tacoli Asquini and BAKEL, which will provide a complimentary welcome gift for every registered participant.

Several golf clubs across Friuli Venezia Giulia have also donated green fees to expand the tournament’s prize pool.

The first edition attracted 105 golfers and more than 80 non-golfing participants. Organizers hope to exceed those numbers this year as the initiative continues to grow.
