In Gorizia, regional officials have inaugurated a new community health hub and intermediate-care hospital inside a renovated former pulmonary clinic, part of a broader effort to shift care closer to patients’ homes.
The 47 million euro project, funded largely by the Friuli Venezia Giulia regional government, brings together a Casa della Comunità and an Ospedale di Comunità under one roof. The complex also includes a territorial operations center and integrated services aimed at improving coordination between health and social care.
“This is not just a building, but a new way of responding to rising chronic conditions,” said the regional health councillor, Riccardo Riccardi, at the opening.
Local officials, including Mayor Rodolfo Ziberna, said the facility reflects a national push to strengthen community-based medicine and reduce pressure on hospitals. Open around the clock, it is designed to guide patients toward appropriate care while limiting unnecessary emergency room visits.
Completed in just over two years, the 12,000-square-meter center is expected to serve as a model for future health care development across the region.
