The seaside town of Muggia is preparing to host the 23rd edition of the Mujalonga sul Mar, a two-day running event scheduled for April 24 and 25 that combines competitive racing with community participation and charitable initiatives.

Set against the backdrop of the Gulf of Trieste, the event is expected to draw more than 4,000 participants, including elite runners, amateur athletes, families, and schoolchildren, with some arriving from neighboring countries. The race routes will wind along Muggia’s waterfront, offering views of the Adriatic coastline.

The main competitive race, a 10-kilometer run, will take place on the morning of April 25, starting at 9:30 a.m. from Piazza Marconi. The race also serves as the second stage of the Trofeo Trieste series. Later that morning, a non-competitive 5-kilometer Family Run will begin at 11 a.m. from Piazzale Lodovico Salvatore, encouraging broader participation.

Events will begin the day before with the Minimuja, a youth-focused initiative open to local schools, aimed at introducing younger participants to the sport.

Beyond athletics, the Mujalonga maintains a strong charitable component. A portion of the proceeds from race registrations will be donated to the Foundation of the Burlo Garofolo, supporting the work of the renowned maternal and pediatric hospital in Trieste.

Organized by Trieste Atletica, which is marking its 50th anniversary this year, the Mujalonga also serves as the opening event of the Trieste Spring Run calendar. The series will continue on May 3 with the return of the Trieste Marathon, alongside a half marathon and the non-competitive Bavisela run.

Held during the shoulder season, the Mujalonga has become a fixture not only for runners but also for promoting tourism along the Muggia coastline, drawing visitors to the area ahead of the summer months.
