Officials in Gorizia have presented the security, transport and traffic management plan for the 2026 edition of Gusti di Frontiera, one of Friuli Venezia Giulia’s largest food and cultural festivals, which will take place from Sept. 24 to 27.
The four-day event, now in its 21st edition, is expected to draw thousands of visitors to the historic border city, prompting an extensive public safety and mobility operation coordinated by regional and local authorities.
The plan includes an investment of approximately €200,000 for security measures. A Municipal Operations Center will be activated at the local police headquarters throughout the festival, while a dedicated first-aid station will operate within the event area.
Regional officials said the operation has been developed in collaboration with the prefecture, police, firefighters, local police and private security personnel, including stewards and licensed security guards, who will help manage crowds during the festival.
To accommodate increased visitor traffic, organizers have scheduled 77 regular train services and 55 additional rail connections to and from Gorizia. Parking areas will be available around the city center, accessible transport services will be provided for people with disabilities, and a free tourist shuttle train will connect downtown Gorizia with Piazza Transalpina and neighboring Nova Gorica, reflecting the cross-border character of the event.
Gusti di Frontiera has become one of the region’s signature annual festivals, celebrating international cuisine and the cultural ties between Italy and Slovenia.
