San Giusto Castle will transport visitors back to the late Middle Ages this weekend as it continues its summer series of historical reenactments, Le Stagioni delle Armi (“The Seasons of Arms”), with a program dedicated to notarial life and everyday customs in northern Italy during the 14th and 15th centuries.
On Saturday, Aug. 29, and Sunday, Aug. 30, members of the Livorno-based reenactment group White Company will return to the castle in historically accurate medieval clothing and armor, recreating aspects of daily life alongside the museum’s collections of weapons and military equipment.
Throughout the day, interactive educational stations will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., where reenactors will demonstrate medieval crafts, answer questions and engage visitors of all ages. Guided tours lasting approximately one hour will depart at 10:30 a.m., 11:45 a.m., 3 p.m., 4:15 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
This weekend’s featured theme, “Notarial Life and Common Customs Between the 1300s and 1400s,” invites participants to step into the role of an apprentice notary, exploring how legal documents preserved the personal stories, disputes, relationships and daily lives of medieval men and women.
The activities are conducted in Italian and are open to both children and adults. Participation is included with the castle’s regular admission ticket (€7 full price, €5 reduced), with guided tour groups limited to 25 participants on a first-come, first-served basis.
The event is promoted by the Municipality of Trieste’s Department of Culture and Tourism, organized by the Museum of San Giusto Castle and curated by Wavents in collaboration with C.E.R.S. Italia and the historical reenactment group Compagnia d’Arme Malleus.
