A nationwide transportation strike is expected to disrupt air and rail travel this weekend, with significant consequences for passengers traveling to and from of Friuli Venezia Giulia.

On Thursday, Feb. 26, walkouts called by several major labor unions — including Filt-Cgil, Fit-Cisl, Uiltrasporti, Ugl Trasporto Aereo, Anpac and Anp — will affect ground and flight crews at ITA Airways, easyJet and Vueling, along with other aviation personnel across Italy.

In addition, the independent union CUB has called a separate four-hour strike from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. the same day.

While easyJet and Vueling do not operate flights at Trieste Airport — officially known as Trieste Airport — ITA Airways has announced several cancellations affecting routes to and from the regional hub.

According to the airline’s website, the following flights scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 26, have been canceled:

  • AZ 1351 from Milan Linate to Trieste (11:20 a.m.)
  • AZ 1352 from Trieste to Milan Linate (1:05 p.m.)
  • AZ 1356 from Trieste to Rome Fiumicino (6:35 a.m.)
  • AZ 1358 from Trieste to Rome Fiumicino (11:15 a.m.)
  • AZ 1365 from Rome Fiumicino to Trieste (1:20 p.m.)
  • AZ 1360 from Trieste to Rome Fiumicino (3:15 p.m.)
  • AZ 1359 from Rome Fiumicino to Trieste (5:20 p.m.)
  • AZ 1363 from Rome Fiumicino to Trieste (9:45 p.m.)

Further disruptions may occur as airlines adjust schedules in response to the strike.

Rail service will be affected the following day. Beginning at 9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 27, and continuing through 8:59 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 28, railway personnel across Italy are scheduled to strike. The action involves the transport federations of CGIL, CISL and UIL, as well as CISAL.

Train cancellations and schedule changes are possible not only during the strike window but also immediately before and after, as services are repositioned.

In regional rail transport, legally mandated minimum service guarantees will be in effect from 6 to 9 a.m. and from 6 to 9 p.m., ensuring limited essential connections during peak commuter hours.

Both Trenitalia and Italo are affected by the strike. Each company has published on its website a list of long-distance trains that will operate as guaranteed services. Travelers are advised to consult official channels for the latest updates before departure.
