On February 4 in Trieste, the Central European Initiative (CEI) and Italy’s National Institute of Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics (OGS) presented the first results of ASAP – Adriatic Sensitive Areas Protection mechanism project, a transnational initiative to protect the Adriatic Sea from maritime pollution.

Funded by the Interreg IPA ADRION program, ASAP has produced detailed risk analyses, oil spill simulations, and maps of the most vulnerable coastal areas.

The project involves six Adriatic countries – Italy, Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro and Slovenia, and aims to improve cross-border preparedness and response to pollution incidents, particularly oil spills, through shared scientific methodologies and coordinated emergency management.
