Four hundred and forty-six police cadets took their oath on Friday at the Vincenzo Raiola Police Academy in Trieste, marking the completion of the 231st training course at one of Italy’s most prominent institutions for the State Police.
The ceremony was attended by regional and local officials, including Pierpaolo Roberti, Friuli Venezia Giulia’s regional councillor for security, who described the academy as a cornerstone of police training in Italy. Each year, the school prepares hundreds of new officers for service across the country.
The event was held at the academy’s headquarters and presided over by its director, Giovanna Lori. Among those present were Trieste’s mayor, Roberto Dipiazza; the prefect, Giuseppe Petronzi; and the chief of police, Lilia Fredella. During the ceremony, several cadets were recognized for outstanding performance during their training.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Mr. Roberti welcomed the latest personnel allocations announced by the Interior Ministry’s Department of Public Security, calling them a tangible sign of attention to the region. He highlighted the assignment of 59 new officers to the border police, a move aimed at strengthening surveillance and security along Friuli Venezia Giulia’s frontier areas.
Border control remains a sensitive and closely watched issue in the region, which lies along Italy’s northeastern border. Regional officials have repeatedly emphasized the need for additional resources, citing both local concerns and the strategic importance of the area.
The newly sworn-in officers will now be deployed to police units across Italy, as the Trieste academy continues its long-standing role in training the country’s State Police.
