Rail service between Trieste and Bivio d’Aurisina remained slowed into late morning on Monday, following a lightning storm that caused significant disruptions to the rail infrastructure. Trains are currently operating on a single track, affecting the flow of both regional and long-distance services.

Approximately 40 trains have been impacted by the disruption, including 35 regional trains, four high-speed Frecce services, and one Intercity. So far, three regional trains have been fully canceled, and delays have reached up to 80 minutes.

Trenitalia, the national rail operator, has arranged substitute bus services in an effort to ease congestion and assist stranded passengers.

The disruption was triggered by a series of lightning strikes that hit the area, damaging essential systems, including train distancing and signal apparatus. Repair crews are currently on site working to restore full functionality.

This latest disruption comes on the heels of two particularly challenging days last week, during which separate technical issues and a freight train malfunction caused delays during the afternoon hours.
