The 27th edition of the Melges World Championship, one of the premier international sailing competitions under the “one design” format, will take place in Trieste from September 19 to 27, 2025. The event was officially presented on Tuesday morning in the Salotto Azzurro of the City Hall, in the presence of Mayor Roberto Dipiazza, Sports Councilor Elisa Lodi, Regional Environment and Energy Councilor Fabio Scoccimarro, and Yacht Club Adriaco President Nicolò de Manzini.

Organized by the historic Yacht Club Adriaco, the championship returns to Trieste more than 40 years after the city last hosted a world sailing event—the 1983 Three Quarter Ton Cup, also organized by the same club. The upcoming edition is already drawing significant international attention, with over 70 teams expected to participate and representation from 16 nations including the United States, Canada, Chile, and the United Kingdom.

In total, approximately 500 people—including sailors, staff, and supporters—are anticipated to arrive in the city, offering a boost to the local economy and hospitality sector, and providing an opportunity to showcase Trieste’s coastal charm to a global audience.

Mayor Dipiazza, expressing gratitude to the organizers, described the championship as “an extraordinary opportunity for Trieste,” emphasizing the city’s growing status as a prime destination for international sporting events.

The Melges World Championship features high-performance racing in identical class boats, ensuring that competition is determined by skill and strategy rather than equipment advantages. The 2025 edition is expected to bring high visibility to the Adriatic port city, reinforcing its maritime legacy and attracting sailing enthusiasts from around the world.
