The Municipality of Trieste has advised residents that elevated ozone concentrations are expected to persist through Monday, Aug. 10, according to forecasts from the Regional Environmental Protection Agency of Friuli Venezia Giulia (ARPA FVG).

The agency said stable weather conditions are likely to keep atmospheric ozone levels above the target threshold of 120 micrograms per cubic meter for several more days.

In response, city officials have urged residents — particularly older adults, children, and people with respiratory or cardiovascular conditions — to take precautions to reduce their exposure to the pollutant until at least Monday.

The advisory is issued in accordance with the city’s air quality action plan, adopted in 2013, which outlines measures to be taken during periods of elevated ozone pollution.

Authorities have directed the public to health guidance prepared by the Trieste local health authority, which provides recommendations on limiting outdoor activity during the hottest hours of the day and following other measures to reduce exposure.
