Travelers and commuters across Italy are expected to face significant disruptions in June due to a series of transport strikes affecting air travel, rail services, and local public transport networks.
Two nationwide strikes, organized by multiple trade unions, are scheduled for mid and late June, adding to a number of local and regional industrial actions taking place throughout the month.
Airport Strike on June 13
The first major disruption is expected on Friday, June 13, when airport staff at various airports across the country will stage a four-hour strike. The walkout, scheduled from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., was called by the CUB Trasporti union.
While the scope of the impact is still being assessed, authorities have warned that the strike may cause delays or cancellations in flight schedules and could affect key ground operations, including check-in and baggage handling.
National Rail and Transport Strike June 19–20
A more extensive nationwide strike is planned to begin at 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 19, continuing through 9 p.m. on Friday, June 20. The 24-hour general strike, organized by the USB, CUB, and SGB trade unions, is expected to affect both the public and private sectors.
Rail services will be heavily impacted. Trenitalia, Italy’s primary rail operator, has stated that it will operate a minimum number of essential services during weekday strike periods, specifically from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. More detailed information is available on the company’s official website.
Local public transport systems in cities across Italy are also expected to be affected on June 20, with specifics to be announced closer to the date.
Italian officials recommend that travelers consult the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport’s website for the most up-to-date information regarding strike-related disruptions.
