The regional mission will focus on scientific cooperation, foreign investment and support for relocating a United Nations water program to Trieste.
The governor of Friuli Venezia Giulia region, Massimiliano Fedriga, will travel to Paris on Wednesday for a series of institutional meetings aimed at strengthening economic, scientific and cultural ties between the region and France.
A central stop on the agenda is UNESCO headquarters, where Fedriga is scheduled to meet the organization’s Deputy Director-General, Åsa Regnér, alongside Italy’s Permanent Representative to UNESCO, Ambassador Liborio Stellino. The talks will focus on formalizing the region’s support for transferring the World Water Assessment Program (WWAP) to Trieste, a move intended to secure the United Nations body’s long-term presence in Italy.
The initiative forms part of a broader strategy to reinforce Trieste’s role as one of Europe’s leading scientific hubs, building on the city’s concentration of international research institutions and organizations.
Later in the day, the delegation will continue its meetings at the Italian Embassy in Paris, where Fedriga will meet senior representatives of Italy’s diplomatic, consular and cultural network in France, including officials from the Italian Cultural Institute and the Italian Trade Agency (ICE). The discussions are expected to focus on coordinating regional development priorities with Italy’s economic and cultural diplomacy abroad.
The visit will conclude with a meeting between Fedriga and Fabrice Le Saché, vice president of Medef, France’s largest employers’ federation. The meeting is intended to promote Friuli Venezia Giulia as a destination for foreign investment and to encourage new industrial and commercial partnerships between Italian and French businesses.
