Five-kilometer sunset run along the waterfront combines sport, family fun and fundraising for the Burlo Garofolo Foundation.
TRIESTE — The Bavisela Summer Family Run will return to Trieste on Saturday, Sept. 5, bringing runners, walkers and families together for a noncompetitive 5-kilometer evening event along the city’s waterfront.
The race, organized by APD Miramar and Trieste Atletica in partnership with the Municipality of Trieste, will begin at 8 p.m. in Piazza Unità d’Italia. Participants will follow a flat route along the Rive to Viale Romolo Gessi before returning to the square, making the event accessible to people of all ages and fitness levels.
Speaking at the presentation on Monday, Sports Councillor Elisa Lodi said the city was proud to support an initiative that combines community participation with charitable giving. The event’s charity partner is the Burlo Garofolo Foundation, which raises funds for Trieste’s renowned maternal and pediatric hospital.
Registration costs €7, with €1 from every entry donated to the foundation. Organizers expect around 600 participants, and the first 600 entrants will receive an exclusive event gadget. Registration is available online or in person on Sept. 4 and before the race on Sept. 5.
The Summer Family Run is part of the broader Bavisela calendar, which includes the spring, Christmas and Carnival editions. Earlier this year, the Trieste Spring Run celebrated its 30th anniversary with more than 10,000 participants from 67 countries, marking a 30 percent increase in registrations over 2025.
Funds raised this year will help the Burlo Garofolo Foundation purchase vital-sign monitoring equipment for children and mothers receiving care at the hospital.
