A new study on quality of life across Italian provinces highlights significant differences depending on age group, with contrasting results for the northeastern region of Friuli Venezia Giulia.

According to data published by Il Sole 24 Ore, the province of Trieste ranks first in Italy for residents aged 65 and over. The result is driven by indicators such as pension levels, access to medical specialists, public spending on home care, proximity to essential services, availability of residential care facilities, and low reported noise pollution.

For younger residents, the picture shifts. In the 15–35 age group, Gorizia ranks third nationally, behind Bolzano and Trento. Its position reflects relatively low housing costs, fewer road accidents, a high density of cultural events, and demographic indicators including birth trends and migration balances.

Trieste also performs strongly among younger residents, placing fourth in the same category, supported by high educational attainment, cultural offerings, and civic participation. The provinces of Udine and Pordenone rank 13th and 19th respectively.

In the quality-of-life index for children under 14, Trieste again ranks highly at fourth place, supported by public spending on families and access to pediatric and social services. Udine ranks 20th, Pordenone 28th, and Gorizia 31st.

The findings underline how quality of life varies significantly by age group within the same region, shaped by housing costs, services, demographics, and local economic conditions.
