Pallacanestro Trieste announced this week that it will not participate in the bidding process for the management and operational concession of the city’s PalaRubini sports arena, citing concerns over the financial and operational terms outlined in the tender.
In a statement, the club said the decision was based solely on the conditions set by the bidding process and emphasized that it had informed municipal officials in advance. The team also expressed its intention to maintain an open dialogue with the city administration moving forward.
The announcement comes as Pallacanestro Trieste continues its search for a long-term and financially sustainable arena solution. Club officials said they have been working on the issue for several months and plan to continue discussions with local stakeholders in an effort to identify a viable path forward.
At the same time, the club said it is actively seeking additional sponsorship and investment. According to the statement, securing new financial backing remains a crucial step toward completing its registration process and ensuring its ability to compete in Italy’s top basketball division, Serie A.
As part of those efforts, Pallacanestro Trieste has requested an urgent meeting with local authorities. The club said the goal is to define the most effective strategy for achieving both financial stability and the infrastructure needed to support its future ambitions.
The decision not to pursue the PalaRubini concession raises broader questions about the future of professional basketball in Trieste. With arena plans unresolved and the search for new investors continuing, what shape will the club’s long-term future ultimately take?
