On Saturday, May 23, Miramare Castle will join museums and cultural institutions across Europe in celebrating the twentieth edition of the European Night of Museums, an initiative supported by the French Ministry of Culture and sponsored by UNESCO, the Council of Europe and ICOM.
The annual event, which aims to encourage public engagement with Europe’s cultural heritage, will see state museums across Italy extend their opening hours by four additional hours beyond their regular schedule. Participating venues will offer evening admission at the symbolic price of one euro, except where exemptions already apply by law.
At Miramare, the evening program will include extended access to both the castle and the exhibition spaces housed in the former stables. The castle itself will remain open until 11 p.m., with admission set at one euro, while the exhibition at the Scuderie del Castello will stay open until 10:30 p.m., with ticket sales ending at 10 p.m. Reduced-price admission to the exhibition will cost 10 euros.
The evening will also feature a family-oriented activity inspired by the museum’s Egyptian antiquities collection. Titled “The Enigma Beneath the Bandages,” the program invites children and their families to investigate the identity of the owner of an ancient sarcophagus through clues, symbols and observation exercises inspired by a noir-style mystery.
Designed for families with children between the ages of 6 and 11, the activity will begin at 6:30 p.m. and last approximately 75 minutes. Participants will be encouraged to sketch, write and piece together details about the ancient figure represented by the mummy, transforming the museum visit into an interactive investigation.
Attendance is limited to 25 participants, and reservations are required through the museum’s events office. The initiative is organized in collaboration with CoopCulture, the concessionaire for additional visitor services at the site.
