Students in Friuli Venezia Giulia as young as 15 will once again have access to structured, paid summer internships designed to bridge the gap between school and the workplace, regional officials announced this week.

“These internships are a fundamental tool,” said Alessia Rosolen, the region’s councillor for labor, education and training, emphasizing their role in helping teenagers gain practical skills and firsthand exposure to business environments during the school break.

Open to students enrolled in upper secondary schools and vocational training programs, the internships are organized through agreements between a sponsoring institution — such as a school, university or training body — and a host organization in either the public or private sector. Regional orientation centers can also act as intermediaries, particularly for students at risk of dropping out.

The internships, which run during the summer suspension of classes, must last at least two weeks and no more than three months. Host organizations are required to provide workplace safety protections, insurance coverage and a minimum monthly stipend of €500 for a standard 40-hour workweek.

While not formally classified as employment, the placements include compensation and basic safeguards. They may also contribute to a student’s broader academic record, potentially counting toward final exam credits.

Regional authorities, working through a network of guidance centers, oversee the program and assist schools in managing procedures and documentation, though they do not match students directly with internship positions.
