A high-level meeting convened today at the Prefecture of Trieste brought together stakeholders to discuss the upcoming closure of the H4 Razdrto–Vipava–Ajdovščina route in Slovenia and its potential impact on cross-border traffic. The meeting, described as “very positive” by regional officials, focused on planning and coordination ahead of the scheduled roadworks set to begin on August 15.
The first part of the meeting addressed infrastructure measures on the Italian side, particularly the work planned by Anas, Italy’s national road agency. These include the opening of two entry lanes at the Fernetti border crossing from Slovenia to accommodate enhanced controls.
Slovenian authorities confirmed the start date of the construction project, which is expected to affect freight and passenger flow across the border. Italian officials stressed the importance of timely access to information regarding the project timeline and procedures.
“We are awaiting the official ordinance so we can assess how best to manage the consequences on our road and highway network,” said Cristina Amirante, the Regional Councillor for Infrastructure and Territory, in a statement following the meeting.
Amirante underscored the role of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region in working alongside national institutions and local authorities to coordinate efforts and minimize disruption. The Region, she noted, is closely monitoring developments and will continue to engage with its Slovenian counterparts to ensure smooth implementation of border adjustments during the construction period.
