Interviews: Cristina Amirante, Regional Councilor for Infrastructure and Transport; Maurizio Marzi, General Director of Trieste Trasporti
In a move to modernize public transportation and reduce emissions, Trieste has unveiled a fleet of new electric buses designed to better navigate the city’s complex topography. The Rampini-built vehicles were presented during a press conference Friday morning in Piazza della Cattedrale in San Giusto.
Cristina Amirante, Regional Councillor for Infrastructure and Transport, was present at the event and highlighted the unique mobility challenges Trieste faces. “Trieste is a special case within Friuli Venezia Giulia,” she said. “With all the uphills, it’s not easy to get around by car or bike. That’s why we believe in promoting buses as an essential part of how people move through the city.”
The new buses, each 8 meters in length, combine compact design with cutting-edge electric technology. They are expected to replace the current diesel Rampini models and will initially serve the city’s most demanding routes—namely the 24 and 38 lines. These lines wind through narrow, sloped, and intricate streets where maneuverability is critical.
In addition to lowering the city’s carbon footprint, the electric buses are intended to improve rider experience through quieter operation and greater onboard comfort.
