Late spring but more like early summer, May is a special month in Trieste: generally sunny but not excessively hot, with the hordes of tourists yet to arrive. This makes May a perfect month for picnics in the park, day trips out of town or lunch by the sea, with plenty of cultural, social and sporting events also happening around the city on the Adriatic. Here are our tips for things to do in and around Trieste during May 2025, one for each day.

1 May. Join local expats for a weekly multicultural aperitivo at Bar Tergesto (Piazza Verdi) from 7 pm on. Everyone’s welcome!
2 May. Celebrate May with a picnic in parvo Urbano.
3 May. Enjoy an evening out in osmiza. For open osmizas this season visit their website.
4 May. Learn about archeology at the beautiful Museo Winckelmann.

5 May. Take a walk on Napoleonica trail and visit the beautiful Monte Grisa temple.

6 May. Take Delfino Verde to Sistiana and spend the day exploring the beautiful seaside resort.
7 May. Meet friends for an early dinner al fresco at Trattoria Caprese in Piazza della Borsa.

9 May. Explore the little-known Civico Museo di Guerra per la Pace “Diego de Henriquez” in the Rozzol district.

11 May. Have a sunset drink with friends at beach side bar Barachin de Barcola.

13 May. Indulge in a delicious rebechin at Buffet da Pepi.

14 May. Enjoy a Neapolitan pizza at Eataly with an amazing view of Sacchetta.
15 May. Rent a rowing boat and explore the Regional Nature Reserve Duino Cliffs.
16 May. Admire the newly renovated Museo Revoltella.
17 May. Enjoy a spritz bianco by the canal.

22 May. Visit the majestic Devil’s bridge in Cividale del Friuli, an hour north of Trieste by train.

23 May. For a sweet treat near Piazza Sant’Antonio stop by Pasticceria La Bomboniera.
24 May. Pick a bottle of an exquisite Amber wine at the annual “Amber Wine Festival” at Castello di San Giusto.
25 May. Immerse yourself in Trieste’s Little Paris.


26 May. A beautiful walk under full moon? Look no further than the Castello Miramare.
27 May. Be fascinated by the Warhol exhibition in Gorizia, just a train ride away.
28 May. For a delicious Sunday lunch head to Agriturismo Milič in Sagrado.   
29 May. Escape to the town of Grado for a walk on a sandy beach.
30 May. How about a drink on a beautiful rooftop bar while watching the sun go down? Look no further than the Pier bar.
31 May. Take your kids to Immaginario Scientifico to learn about science in a fun and interactive way.
