What To Do In Trieste This January 2025

With the Christmas festivities behind us, Trieste looks forward to a New Year and a 2025 full of interesting social and cultural events in the city. Here are our suggestions for things to do in January, one for each day of the month.

1 Jan. For a magical experience this first day of the year, head to Tarvisio and take in the yearly Torchlight Parade.

2 Jan. Last day to sign up for Corsa della Bora, the non-competitive 13 km run through the beautiful Carso.

3 Jan. Make a new year’s resolution list and try to stick to at least one of them this year.

4 Jan. Get a capo-in-b to go from Chocolat in Via Cavana. 

5 Jan. Pick up a book about Trieste at your local bookstore. Our suggestion: Magris & Ara’s “Un’identità di frontiera”.

6 Jan. Happy Befana! Don’t forget to fill up your stockings with candies and dried fruit. 

7 Jan. Walk down Corso Italia to score some great finds during the winter sales.

8 Jan. Order-in some cozy and delicious Lebanese food from Colsaj Bar on Viale XX Settembre. 

9 Jan. Keep colds at bay the Italian way and enjoy a spremuta d’arancia at your local bar.

Caffé degli Specchi, Trieste

10 Jan. Beat the back to work blues with a whipped cream-topped hot chocolate at Caffè degli Specchi.

11 Jan. Be bowled over by the art and grandeur of Castello Duino open on weekends.

12 Jan. Take a day trip to Gorizia and visit the beautiful town which divides Italy and Slovenia.

13 Jan. Our winter edition is all over town. Have you gotten yours yet?

Market St Antonio

14  Jan. Visit the daily St Antonio market for some fresh veggies & fruit in season.

15 Jan. Discover the beauty of San Giusto’s Lapidario today. 

16 Jan. Trieste Film Festival kicks off today with many films for everyone to enjoy.

17 Jan. Take the kids to discover the Immaginario Scientifico in Porto Vecchio.

18 Jan. Take a day trip to Monte Lussari and enjoy some cool mountain air.

19 Jan. How long has it been since you’ve seen the Miramare Castle? Go at night for a romantic experience.

20 Jan. Start your day with a traditional Triestine pastry kranz, the breakfast of champions.

21 Jan. Enroll in a conversation course to brush up your Italian at one of the language schools in town.

22 Jan. Enjoy a Tuscan night out at Al Toscano.

23 Jan. Hop on the train and visit the Basilica of Aquileia which has 11th century frescos.

24 Jan. Explore the underground tunnels of San Giusto Castle.

25 Jan. Take Delfino Verde to Muggia and spend the day exploring the beautiful town by the sea.

26 Jan. Head to the mountains of Friuli Venezia Giulia for skiing and sledding.

27 Jan. Learn three words in Triestino dialect today. Our suggestions are cocal (a seagull)toc (a dip in the sea), and patoco (a local).

28 Jan. Visit the magnificent Laghi di Fusine, just an hour and a half from Trieste.

Bike path Cottur

29 Jan. For an uplifting experience head for a jog on running & bike path Cottur which starts in San Giacomo.  

30 Jan. For an alternative outdoor weekend, discover the Ciclovia Alpe Adria that connects Grado to Salzburg.

31 Jan. Enjoy a brisk walk on the scenic Sentiero dlle Salvia from Aurisina to Santa Croce (and back).
