Friuli Venezia Giulia will take part in Expo Belgrade 2027 with three dedicated regional days, highlighting its cultural heritage, economy and international partnerships as part of Italy’s national pavilion, regional officials announced Wednesday.
The region’s participation was formalized through a cooperation agreement signed by Massimiliano Fedriga, president of Friuli Venezia Giulia, and Luca Gori, Italy’s ambassador to Serbia and commissioner of the Italian Pavilion.
Expo Belgrade 2027, scheduled for May 15 to Aug. 15, 2027, will bring together more than 140 countries under the theme “Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All.” The international exposition is expected to serve as a platform for cultural exchange, innovation and economic cooperation.
Friuli Venezia Giulia will occupy a customized exhibition space within the Italian Pavilion from May 20 to 22, 2027. During those three days, the region plans to host conferences, food and wine tastings, performances and business initiatives aimed at promoting its tourism, cultural identity and productive sectors.
Fedriga said the exhibition offers an opportunity to strengthen ties between northeastern Italy and the Western Balkans, describing the region as a crossroads connecting people, cultures and markets. He added that the initiative aligns with broader efforts to encourage institutional dialogue and economic cooperation during the ongoing process of European integration.
The agreement implements a broader framework signed in Rome in June 2026 between the Italian Pavilion and the Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces, which Fedriga chaired at the time. The framework was designed to coordinate the participation of Italy’s regions in the 2027 exposition.
