Italy remains in the grip of its fourth major heat wave of the summer, with high temperatures expected to persist through at least the middle of August. Forecasts for August 12 indicate temperatures remaining above seasonal averages, with peaks approaching 40 degrees Celsius in some inland areas.
Friuli Venezia Giulia is also experiencing the effects of the heat, with particularly hot and humid conditions expected across the region. In Trieste, the combination of high temperatures and humidity is increasing heat stress, while inland areas can experience even higher daytime temperatures.
The prolonged heat follows a period in which all 27 Italian cities monitored by the Health Ministry were placed under the highest, red-level heat alert — the first time that has happened this year. Although storms have brought temporary relief to parts of northern Italy, the broader heat wave has continued.
Scientists say increasingly frequent and intense heat waves are consistent with a warming climate. For residents across Italy, including Friuli Venezia Giulia, health authorities continue to recommend limiting strenuous activity during the hottest hours, staying hydrated and taking precautions against prolonged exposure to high temperatures.
