Rain fell over the Gulf of Trieste on Saturday, and the wind was scarce. But aboard Night Shadow, a 16-meter Maxi yacht preparing for the 58th edition of the Barcolana, the crew continued to work through the conditions, fine-tuning maneuvers and preparing for Sunday’s race.

As every year, we joined the team on the water to see how the sailors were preparing for one of the world’s largest sailing regattas, where thousands of boats gather in the Gulf of Trieste.

The international crew brings together sailors from different countries, united by the demands of racing a large yacht. Skipper David Mizrahi oversees the team, while Marco Bodini, a native of Trieste, guides its racing strategy, drawing on his knowledge of the gulf’s unpredictable conditions.

On the foredeck, Wade Hookham, Jacqueline Hürlimann and Bradley Ransom work together to manage the sails and coordinate maneuvers, tasks that require precision, communication and trust, particularly when conditions are less than ideal.

For Night Shadow, Saturday’s rain and light winds offered a reminder that preparation is as much about teamwork as it is about speed. With the Barcolana approaching, the crew continued to make the most of the time available before the start.
